Creamy, opaque, never quite dry
Oil pastel is pigment in a binder of oil and wax, creamy as butter and yet strong in color. Paintings with oil pastel are for sale here, from the gestural sheet to the strict geometric composition.
Unlike soft pastel chalk, oil pastel does not dust. The color can be applied thickly, rubbed with a finger, dissolved with solvent or scratched free with a knife. Because the binder never fully hardens, the surface stays slightly waxy and very intense in color.

Styles and supports
Oil pastel carries abstract, urban and quiet picture worlds alike. Supports are paper, board and primed canvas, for example as acrylic on canvas or in acrylic. Prices run from 500 to 1,000 euro to 1,000 to 2,000 euro.
Care in daily life
Waxy color picks up warmth and fingerprints easily. Frame under glass with spacing and do not hang the picture above a heater. On thin paper, oil can form halos over time, so strong papers or primings are a good sign.
