Black with a thousand grays
Charcoal delivers a deep, velvety black that can be rubbed, lightened and erased again. Paintings with charcoal are for sale here, from the fine line to broad, cloudy fields, often combined with acrylic.
Compressed charcoal gives a strong black, willow charcoal stays loose and soft. With finger, cloth or kneaded eraser, gradients, highlights and shadows appear. Combined with paint, the picture gets a drawing that looks written into the ground.

Effect in the room
Charcoal works have a calm, serious presence. They like light walls with a generous mat. In the catalog you will find them as abstract, gestural or graphic positions, priced from under 500 euro to 1,000 to 2,000 euro.
Fixing and care
Charcoal only sits loosely. Ask whether the work was fixed or painted over with acrylic, and frame it behind glass with spacing. With acrylic or acrylic on canvas the surface is usually more stable.
