One field, one stroke
Minimalism aims to achieve a lot with very little: one line, one field of color, a piece of open surface. If you want to buy minimalist oil pastel paintings, look for pictures where the soft crayon ground is almost the only event. They are part of our paintings for sale.
In reduction, every detail counts. Oil pastel can be rubbed densely into a single plane or drawn as a fine line, and you can see the trace the stick left behind. The paper or canvas shows through, which gives the picture room to breathe. Precisely because there is so little to see, the crayon stroke stands out: it shows pressure, direction and the speed of the hand. A single color can look livelier that way than a colorful jumble. A neutral backdrop helps when hanging.

Leave space around the picture
Such pieces need air. A bright, free wall and a slim frame underline the calm. Under artificial light the slightly waxy surface looks especially soft.

To see the difference from acrylic on canvas, look there for smoother fields of color. The filter 500 to 1,000 euro narrows the search further.
