Oil and oil pastel together
Oil on canvas is painting’s classic technique, and oil pastel is its restless relative. Anyone looking to buy oil on canvas paintings with oil pastel should watch for pictures in which both materials speak the same language. You will find them among our paintings for sale.
Both materials are oil based and therefore get along. A painting with an oil paint underlayer receives strong lines, hatching and final highlights from the crayon. The pastel strokes sit visibly on the paint layer and add an extra, almost drawn dimension.

Drying and care
Oil paint takes months to dry through, and only then does a varnish protect it. The pastel passages stay soft. Keep such pictures dry, dust free and, if possible, untouched.
A look at subject and price
If you are after a specific theme, Surrealism is one way in. For a higher budget, pieces in the 5,000 to 10,000 euro range suggest themselves, where larger formats and mature handwriting are generally to be expected.
