A robust mixture
Acrylic on canvas gives a picture a firm, fast drying base, and oil pastel puts a handwriting on top of it. Here you can buy acrylic on canvas paintings with oil pastel for sale, joining both worlds.
Acrylic can be reworked within minutes, dries waterproof and stays flexible. Above it, the soft oil pastel acts like a drawing stick on a painted ground: it covers, shimmers and can be laid on thickly. The sequence matters, because acrylic would not adhere to a greasy layer. Between brush and crayon a pictorial tone arises that is neither pure painting nor pure drawing. Abstract and geometric pictures like to use this: planes for rhythm, lines for finesse.

Versatile in a room
As a color field with a play of lines or as a densely worked scene, pictures of this mixture suit bright rooms where the pastel layer lights up in side light. The stretcher bar should be deep enough for the picture to feel sculptural.
Sorting by style and price
