Creamy color with punch
Oil pastel is a material for painters who want to put color straight onto the ground. Paintings with oil pastel from 500 to 1,000 euro are for sale here, in styles from abstract through geometric to minimalist.
Oil pastel tolerates thick layers as well as hairthin ones. With a thick hand, stroke marks stay, with a thin one soft gradients arise. Sgraffito is possible too: with a point the top layer is scratched open until the color below lights up.

Frame and location
Because the chalk never fully dries, a picture belongs under glass with spacing. Avoid heat sources and sun. A light wall tone, say white or soft gray, lets the strong colors glow without making the room restless.
