When paint is not enough
In mixed media painting, color shares the canvas with sand, paper, chalk or stone. You can find mixed media paintings for sale in many hands, from the calm color field to the wild gesture.
A painter reaches for additions because they do things paint alone cannot: oil pastel sits fat and opaque, marble dust makes the ground gritty, acrylic dries fast and forms a skin for further layers. The result has relief, and light plays across it.

Frame, care, choosing
Such paintings are often more delicate than pure acrylic pictures. Look at the materials listed, such as acrylic, oil pastel or natural stone, and ask about varnish or protection. On the wall, raking light is a good idea because it brings out the structure instead of flattening it.
Styles as signposts
If you do not know where to start, pick a mood: the gestural brings speed, urban and pop brings color and quotation, the metaphysical brings calm. Price pages such as under 500 euro help with a first step.
