Line and plane at once

A brush has to pick up paint, while a marker delivers it immediately. That gives pictures pace. In combination with acrylic, gouache or collage, layers appear in which markers take over placement and brushes take care of atmosphere. Not every marker is the same: some are waterproof, some react to water, others are alcohol-based. Depending on type the sheet may be cleaned damp or not. Ask before you dust it.

Marker painting needs protection from light and humidity. UV-filtering glass, distance from heating and a clean backing are sensible. Ask about the durability of the markers and about varnish or fixative.
