Painted stillness in layers
A square in evening light, a shadow without an owner, a facade straight out of a dream: metaphysical painting makes stillness its subject. You can find mixed media paintings in the metaphysical style for sale here when you want that stillness to have texture and depth as well.
In painting, the surface is the center: a smooth sky, a ground in earth tones, sharply set shadow edges. Mixed media breaks that smoothness on purpose, with sand in the paint, torn paper or pastel over acrylic. The result looks different from three yards away than it does up close.

In the room and before buying
A calm wall without much competition gives these pictures room. Ask about the support and the framing, because rougher layers collect dust and do not like pressure during transport. It also helps to know which paints were used, for example acrylic or oil pastel.
Typical colors and tones
Muted ochre, terracotta and green tones under a clear, often greenish sky are common. If a description names such palettes, that points to a picture oriented on the tradition. Light and dark stand hard against each other, which strengthens the effect from a distance.
