Painting as movement

The picture shows how the body worked: a wide swing from the back, a short thrust from the wrist. Mixed media brings objects into the picture where the paint catches. That gives the movement structure.

Choosing the wall
For gestural pictures, choose a wall from which you can look from a distance. A cramped surrounding takes away their pull. Light walls let the movement glow, darker tones pull it into density.
Choosing by price
If you want to sound out the terrain, you can begin at prices under 500 euro and work your way up to 2,000 euro. Read the notes on format and drying, especially for thick paint applications. It helps to divide the picture surface mentally into zones and ask where calm reigns and where the movement is most intense.
