Line in color space
Pencil in a painting is a detail with impact: it sets lines in color, covers areas with sheen and marks the trace of the hand. Mixed-media painting with pencil for sale shows pictures where color and drawing are equal partners.
In painted work the pencil often stays visible: as underdrawing beneath glazes, as a scratch in wet acrylic or as contours on dry areas. Graphite shimmers slightly metallic there and separates from the color without disturbing it.

Adhesion of layers
Pencil adheres poorly to smooth glossy paint and better to a rough ground. Experienced painters choose primers with tooth and secure the whole with varnish or fixative. Ask about it if you want to be sure the picture stays stable for years.
Hanging
Painted sheets with graphite belong behind glass; on canvas, a varnish helps. Hang the work where light from the side makes the drawing visible. In diffuse light it disappears. A frame in oak or white is unobtrusive and lets color and line work.
