Where chalk meets paint

The page 500 to 1,000 euro leads to the middle bracket. Precisely because pastel is so tender, the format deserves a look. A larger sheet spreads the weight of the color and often feels calmer in daylight than several small ones side by side.
Before buying
Look for a note on whether the pastel layer is fixed, and on the type of ground. A deep frame with a mat keeps pigment from reaching the glass.
