The impossible, precisely painted

Surreal painting invents scenes that run on dream logic yet are painted so precisely that they seem almost possible. Paintings in the surrealist style for sale between 2,000 and 5,000 euro are best met with time for a second and third look.

One object grows out of another, scales tip over, shadows fall the wrong way. The effect works because light, perspective and surfaces stay realistic. The calmer the handling, the stranger the motif. That very mix of exactness and riddle makes surreal pictures companions you do not see through quickly.

Oil or acrylic

The craft demands fine transitions. That is why many painters choose oil on canvas, whose gradients blend softly. Acrylic on canvas suits dense, clean areas of color and sharp details.

Room to look

Surreal pictures need quiet viewing. Do not hang them in passageways, but where people linger, such as a reading room or beside the dining table. Mild light lets the details come forward. A dark wall tone makes shadows in the picture look deeper, a pale one makes motifs clearer.
