Cut, tear and overlap
A collage is built from cuts: paper, fabric, photo prints or found scraps are lifted, rearranged and fixed until the surface says something none of the parts could say alone. Torn paper edges look soft and fibrous, cut ones sharp like a poster. Paint sits in between, either tying things together or deliberately disturbing them. Choosing the technique
Many pieces come as acrylic and collage on canvas, others as mixed media with drawing, wax or ink. The paper itself lasts well as long as it is acid free and has been glued with care.
Space on the wall
Collages tend to be detailed and reward closeness. Hang them at eye level in daylight instead of a dark corner. A plain frame without a mat keeps the surface unbroken. They work especially well above a dresser or desk, where you pass regularly and keep finding something new.
