Pictures with a false bottom
Symbolist painting narrates in signs: a bird, a mirror, a staircase stand for something that cannot be said directly. Symbolist paintings for sale between 2,000 and 5,000 euro are often sought for pictures that open up gradually.
Behind the scene lies a second layer. Motifs repeat, colors carry fixed meaning, place and time stay undefined. That makes symbolism an art for people who like to stand in front of a picture for a long time. Often a narrative core lies underneath, which the painter deliberately only hints at.

Fine techniques
For this precision, acrylic on canvas with clear outlines suits as well as tempera with its matte, chalky glow. Old masters used tempera for symbolic work because the paint lies fine and dense at once.
Space to think
Hang a symbolist picture where quiet reigns: a reading room, a hallway outside the bedroom, a wall without competition. Soft, warm light underlines the mood. With pictures of such meaning, descriptions that name motifs without explaining everything are a pleasure.
