Metal is cold, heavy and rings when you knock it. You can find metal sculptures for sale when you want art with weight, edge and patina, from welded steel to polished brass.
Metal is cast, forged, cut, welded or bent. Each technique leaves its handwriting: weld seams, hammer blows, smooth casting. Surfaces come from rust, pickling, wax, lacquer or polishing and decide whether a piece feels warm, cool or shimmering.

Indoors and out
Some metals are weatherproof, others are not. Stainless steel, bronze and Corten steel tolerate outdoor spaces, while polished steel and brass should stay inside. Think about where the work will stand and ask how the surface is protected. Wax keeps patina safe from fingerprints.
