Contemporary Vanitas in Steel and Bronze

I created Lace Skull as a fragile apparition suspended between matter and emptiness. Through my metal lace technique, I transform the traditional image of the skull into an open, almost organic form where light and shadow become part of the sculpture.
The steel skull seems to emerge from a delicate bronze structure. The contrast between the dark steel and the warm tones of bronze creates a dialogue between strength and fragility, while the irregular openings give the work a sense of lightness and transparency.
For me, the skull is not simply a symbol of death. It evokes the passage of time, memory and transformation. I wanted to revisit the tradition of the vanitas through a contemporary language, allowing each viewer to find their own interpretation.
This unique sculpture is entirely handmade in my studio. The metal reacts differently with every fusion, making each piece impossible to reproduce identically. The work is signed on the base and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
