Dark, dense, tough
Diabase is a dark, fine-grained hard stone that looks nearly black in the light and can glow deep green when polished. Anyone considering diabase sculptures for sale chooses a material rarer than granite and just as durable.
Diabase formed from cooled lava and consists of fine crystals that are barely visible. That is why the stone looks homogeneous and calm, without the speckles of granite. Color runs from gray-green to deep black, and polished surfaces mirror light almost like water. Its density makes it extremely weatherproof, but also hard to work.

Choosing and placing
To narrow things down, use stone, abstract forms or the 1,000 to 2,000 euro band. Dark sculptures look strong against light walls or gravel. Ask about surface treatment, weight and whether the piece is meant for outdoors. Diabase needs hardly any care; water and a brush suffice. Precisely because the stone is so even, scratches and signs of use hardly show, and it stays calm and composed for years.
