With Un Roc, I explore the strength, permanence, and presence of the human head through the expressive possibilities of steel and bronze.
I create the sculpture using my signature metal lace technique, melting steel drop by drop to form an intricate, openwork structure. The resulting surface is both rugged and delicate, combining dense metallic textures with open spaces that allow light to pass through. Bronze adds depth and warmth, contrasting with the darker steel and enhancing the sculpture’s powerful character.
The title Un Roc, meaning “a rock,” evokes solidity, resilience, and an unwavering presence. Yet the openwork construction gives the sculpture an unexpected lightness, revealing a balance between strength and fragility.
Handcrafted in my studio in France, this original contemporary artwork reflects my ongoing exploration of material, light, and the human form.
