Compact and still metal
Even on a small budget there is metal with character: welded miniatures, bent wire, cast reliefs. You can look for metal sculptures under 500 euro for sale when you want handy formats with weight.
Under 500 euro, originals are usually smaller pieces, such as tabletop sculptures, wire objects or reliefs in sheet metal. The material feels cool and heavy even when the piece is only palm-sized, and so it feels substantial without having to be elaborate.

Looking closely before buying
Watch the weld seams, edges and galvanizing: clean seams show careful work. Check that the foot is firmly joined and the piece stands safely. Use a small felt glider under the foot to protect furniture.
More from metal
If you like bronze, bronze offers cast small formats. Ask about signature, date and type of metal so you know the care. With steel, rust is a question of intent, with iron and zinc a question of protection.
