From earth to sculpture
Clay is earth that keeps every touch: fingertips, scraper marks, the press of a palm. Sculptures in clay for sale appeal to anyone who wants work that is allowed to look like how it was made.
Clay is built up wet, dried and often fired or coated with slips and glazes. Raw, it looks sandy and earth-colored; after firing it turns denser, harder, sometimes almost stony. Color ranges from pale ochre to deep red-brown. Whether modeled as fired clay or shaped as a statue, the material does not forgive haste, since drying and firing decide where every crack appears.

Placing and caring for it
Clay work belongs indoors. Frost and constant rain can break open unprotected surfaces, and even fired pieces tolerate damp cold only up to a point. Dry dusting with a soft brush is enough. Ask about the firing and about hairline cracks, which are not necessarily a flaw in clay but worth knowing about. With larger pieces, the floor beneath the sculpture matters.
