Bronze in detail
Bronze is the metal that made sculpture great: dense, easy to cast, long-lasting. You can find bronze sculptures for sale in all sizes, from tabletop figure to standing piece.
An alloy of copper and tin, often with small additions, can be cast finely and then chased. Eyelashes, drapery folds and fingernails survive. The surface can be polished or patinated, with warm browns to deep blacks that give the piece depth.

Stylistic paths
Bronze carries very different forms: modern work with clean line, abstract work with organic swells, figurative work in the classical sense. Price-wise small formats start at under 500 euro, mid-sized pieces sit at 500 to 1,000 euro, larger ones at 2,000 to 5,000 euro.
Recognizing authenticity
Watch for foundry marks, numbering and signature. Hollow-cast bronzes sound different when tapped than solid ones and are lighter. Ask about the patination and about care notes so the piece stays handsome over the years.
