Interpretation instead of description
Symbolism paints meaning, not likeness: blossoms, mirrors, masks, figures with an unclear gaze. Anyone seeking symbolist tempera paintings from 2,000 to 5,000 euro for sale wants pictures of quiet suggestion.
Symbolist pictures leave more open than they show. The matte paint of tempera suits that, since it does not shine and stresses nothing. Figures and objects stand calmly in the surface, often surrounded by gold, blue and green.

Craft of the old school
Whoever uses tempera follows a tradition from the Middle Ages to the present. The thin, layered strokes demand planning and concentration. Check in the photo whether surfaces appear even and contours stay fine.
Frame and placement
Between 2,000 and 5,000 euro, larger panels are no rarity among originals. A picture of this kind asks for calm around it: a room without glaring light, perhaps beside a bookshelf. Small lamps with warm light set the colors gently on stage.
