Momentum and structure

A painting can look as if the paint hit the canvas in a single breath. Expressive paintings in acrylic and mixed media for sale combine that momentum with additions that provide structure and counterweight.

On canvas, bristle marks, knife edges and drips stay visible. Acrylic holds on to these traces because it dries fast and stays flexible. Additional materials such as paper or sand set points where the eye catches. Look closely and you can read the order of the layers: primer first, then broad strokes of color, finally thin lines or splatters. This order of gestures makes a wild picture legible and lets you keep finding new spots.

To frame or not

Gestural paintings often benefit from an open edge: the paint runs over the sides, and a plain shadow-gap frame emphasizes the surface. A wide gilded frame would tend to slow the dynamic down.

Questions for the description

Note the format, stretcher depth and hanging hardware. If the surface is varnished, that is usually stated. Where a signature is mentioned on the front or back, a photo of it helps with identification.
