Impression before contour
Impressionist drawing holds on to how light dissolves things: a garden against the sun, a street in haze, figures flashing into view. Impressionist drawings for sale come in charcoal, pastel, pencil and graphite, at prices from under 500 euro up to 1,000 to 2,000 euro.
Unlike realism, edges are not fixed but played around by strokes. In pastel colors mix in the viewer’s eye, in charcoal it is the grays that do it. The overall impression counts more than any single line.

Soft light for soft tones
Impressionist sheets need natural, diffuse light. A spot by a window with a light curtain, or in a bright hallway, works well. Wood frames in warm tones, together with a pale mat, give these drawings a calm presence.
Clarify the technique first
Different care rules apply depending on the technique: pastel and charcoal need glass and distance, pencil is sturdier. Ask about fixing, paper type and signature, so you know how the sheet wants to be handled.
