Material and attitude
Modern drawing has no duty to depict: it may be a rhythm, a gesture, a surface with an edge. Modern drawings for sale come in sketch, charcoal, ink, oil paint and pen, starting under 500 euro.
Whether charcoal with a soft edge, ink with clear hardness or pen and ink with a nervous line: here the material is part of the statement. Oil paint on paper adds sheen and depth that are rarely found in drawings.

Room in reduced spaces
Modern sheets suit bright, clear rooms with few pieces of furniture. Hang a sheet alone or as a loose row. Slim frames in white, black or wood let paper and line speak. A mat with a wide border fits too.
Checking the details
Ask about technique, paper and signature. With oil paint, ask about priming and drying; with drawings and sketches about the condition of the edges. Photos of the back help further.
