Color as expression
Expressionism paints feeling rather than appearance: colors are heightened, forms distorted, the brush visible. If you want expressionist oil paintings for sale, you will find motifs where mood outranks fidelity to nature, for example on canvas.
A face may be green, a sky orange, if it serves the mood. Oil supports this freedom because it covers strongly and can still flow soft. Heavy contours in dark blue or black hold the fireworks of color together. These include portraits, city views and landscapes in which color organizes the scene.

Effect in the living space
Expressionist pictures have presence. One work alone on a wall is enough, a second beside it takes away its force. Neutral wall colors let the paint speak, muted tones calm it.
