Strong on firm ground
Expressionism on canvas is painting with the whole body: the surface gives, the stroke gets strong. If you want expressionist oil on canvas for sale, look at color harmony, contrast and the force of the format.
A tightly stretched canvas withstands broad brushes and thick paint. Typical are black contours, interlocking color fields and faces with heavily stressed features. The paint application stays visible and tells of the speed of its making. The canvas allows big gestures without the ground giving way.

Hanging with attitude
Such pictures need distance. Plan on two to three meters of viewing distance so the color fields can gather. Warm light intensifies red and yellow, cool light brings out blue and green. A clear spot along the line of sight keeps the force from dissipating in the room.
Tips for choosing
Ask about dimensions and weight, since thickly applied paint can make a picture heavier than it looks. A photo of the back shows stretcher, signature and hanging hardware. Ask too how heavy the picture is with a frame.
