When material joins in painting
Abstraction meets material mix: oil paint combines with wax, chalk, sand or paper into surfaces with many layers. You can find abstract mixed-media paintings in oil for sale here, with textures you like to look at for a long time.
In abstract mixed-media painting each material takes a role. Sand gives grain, wax depth, paper edge, chalk line. Oil binds the whole and holds the composition together. The pictures are rarely flat, they have terrain.

Light as a participant
Raking light brings out relief and texture and turns the picture into a landscape model. Hang it on a wall with side window light or use a lamp deliberately. Direct frontal light flattens the structures. Matte walls in a quiet tone keep the attention on the surface and away from the surroundings.
Care and questions
Ask about all the materials used and whether the surface was sealed. Wax responds to heat, paper to moisture. Plan a place away from radiators. A frame with glass protects when the surface is delicate.
