Many materials, one picture
Mixed media with oil paint joins several materials on one support, such as paper, sand, charcoal or textile. These collages in mixed technique are for sale here, with the oil holding the whole surface together.
In this technique the oil paint is the calm center. It binds charcoal lines, covers adhesive edges and evens out differences in sheen. Lean layers go on first and fatter ones above, otherwise the paint cracks later. Drawing and painting end up standing side by side on equal terms. The range runs from discreet inlays to strong relief, where sand or plaster gives the paint a grain.

What it does on the wall
Such pictures often have more depth than a plain painting. Rough material beside a smooth skin of oil creates tension you can study up close for a long time. Hang them a little lower so the details stay at eye level. The oil makes sure it all ends up looking cast from one piece.
What to look for
Check the list of materials in the description. Delicate inclusions like paper or charcoal should be fixed, and a frame with glass protects them from touch.
