Glass fiber as a picture ground
Fiberglass is known from boat hulls and surfboards, and in painting it serves as a light, dimensionally stable support or as a layer within the picture. Browsing paintings with fiberglass for sale, you find works that hang surprisingly lightly on the wall.
Fine glass fiber mats are soaked in resin and cure into a firm, slightly translucent sheet. You can paint on it like on a panel, only without the weight of wood or stone. Sometimes the fiber weave stays visible and gives the picture a fine texture.

Lightness in a room
Because the material weighs little and hardly moves, the picture does not warp. That makes it interesting for large surfaces and for rooms with difficult walls. The smooth side reflects light, the fibrous one tends to scatter it.
