Speed on paper
A gestural sketch is as fast as a thought: the hand flies, the stroke breaks off, a second line starts anew. Expressive, gestural sketches for sale start at under 500 euro, often in pencil, gel pen or ink.
In the gestural sketch the spontaneity of the moment counts. Pencil allows soft, quick traces, the gel pen gives even, strong lines, and pen and ink bring scratches and drips into the picture. Those small accidents are exactly the appeal.

A small wall full of motion
Several sketches in matching frames form a lively wall that leads the eye through the room. Set them at eye level and keep every gap the same. White mats bring calm to the fast line.
Suited to a first purchase
Sketches are a good way to acquire a first original. In the description, look for paper, technique, signature and format, and ask whether the sheet comes from a sketchbook. Photos of the back show traces of origin.
