Draft with energy
Gestural sketches arise in passing: an idea, an impulse, a sheet on which the hand was faster than the mind. Expressive sketches under 500 euro for sale put originality ahead of polish.
In gestural sketches lines are not straightened, corrections not hidden. You see where the artist started and where he lifted off. This courage to leave a trace makes such sheets personal documents.

Effective in groups
Sketches live in the plural. Several gestural sheets side by side show variants of the same impulse and create a rhythm on the wall. A uniform format helps order the unrest.
Notes on buying
Ask what the sketch is made of, since pencil, ink and charcoal need different care. Check paper, margin and signature, and have the sheet framed with distance from the glass. When picking a sheet, imagine how it will feel after a year. Gestural sketches do not grow dull with time, because you keep discovering new lines you had not noticed before.
