Force in black
Gestural charcoal is the most direct form of drawing: pigment, arm, paper, nothing else. Expressive charcoal drawings in the gestural style for sale run from under 500 euro to 500 to 1,000 euro, and vine charcoal belongs here too.
With the side of the charcoal, broad areas are pulled, with the tip scratches are set. In between lie smudges and traces of the eraser. The sheet tells of movement: run-up, pressure, lifting off. From afar it looks like handwriting, up close like rock.

Near and far
Gestural charcoal sheets want to be seen from two distances. Hang them so you recognize them as a whole from the door and can study the structure close to the sheet. A white border and glass with a spacer are fitting here.
For the checking
Ask about fixing, paper type and size. Charcoal on a large format needs stable framing so the paper does not buckle. Have the sheet photographed in raking light so the traces of the eraser become visible.
