Originals in this selection, Drawing, Expressive and gestural.
Ink or oil, wet or dry
The gestural drawing is more than a sketch but less than a painting: a sheet on which movement has condensed into composition. Expressive, gestural drawings for sale come in ink and oil paint, beginner friendly under 500 euro.
Ink demands decisiveness because it cannot be taken back, and it shows every turn of the wrist. Oil paint on paper mixes drawing with painting, with matte gloss and thick edges. The two materials lead to very different traces.

Strong yet readable
Gestural drawings work well next to calm furniture and plants, to which they offer contrast. A simple wood frame, a light mat and a wall with no other pictures nearby let the line work. Side light emphasizes the texture.
On choosing the sheet
With oil on paper, ask about drying and priming, with ink about lightfastness. Check signature, format and the state of the edges. A photo of the back shows whether the sheet was stored rolled or flat.
