Believable down to the hair
Oil on canvas is the technique in which surrealists join reality and dream most believably. Surrealist oil paintings on canvas between 500 and 1,000 euro for sale are a good match if you value fine painting and riddles.
The oil layers often hold weeks of work. Soft gradients in sky and skin, shining metals, transparent glass: everything is painted so exactly that the impossible becomes plausible. Looking, wonder and unease take turns. Clouds, skin, and fabric in particular show oil at its best.

Dark tones, fine details
Surrealist oil paintings often have dark grounds in which light objects float. They work best in subdued light or on walls in green, blue, or anthracite. A frame with a slim profile supports the play. Do not hang the work directly above a radiator.
Certificate and packing
With finely painted oils, a certificate, a note on the signature, and information about the varnish are worth having. Ask too how the work is packed. Delicate surfaces need protection from pressure and knocks. Detail photos of a face or a hand say a lot about the fineness of the painting.
