Force in thick paint
Oil paint can handle force: it goes on thick, can be scraped and overpainted, and stays wet long enough for transitions. Expressionist oil on canvas paintings for sale between 500 and 1,000 euro are best judged by checking the paint layer up close.
In expressionist oil, paint can behave like material: laid in ribbons, dragged with a knife, pressed into furrows. The canvas carries it, and the long drying time allows wet-in-wet mixing until tones vibrate.

Hang it with distance
Thick paint lives on shadow. Light hitting from the side makes ridges and furrows visible, while frontal light flattens them. Leave enough space to the neighboring wall so the picture can breathe, and expect more depth on the stretcher for heavily built work.
Let it mature
Thick oil layers need an especially long time to cure fully. Ask about the age and varnish of the work, and keep it away from a radiator. Cracks mostly form when paint dries too quickly.
