Oil on canvas, undiluted
An oil painting does not have to be explained to work: it is enough when color and surface are right. Browsing oil on canvas paintings for sale in the 500 to 1,000 euro range without a style brief means choosing by effect instead of by era.
With no stylistic frame, the technique shows itself clearly. Oil paint can go on as a thin glaze or as thick as butter, forming edges, ridges, and gradients. The canvas gives the picture a slight tooth, and the brush leaves traces from which you can read speed and hesitation.

Match it with the room
Measure the wall first and walk the line of sight from which the picture will mostly be seen. Oil does not behave the same at all sizes: a small format works in a niche, a large one needs distance, such as across from a door.
Care from day one
Oil needs months to cure fully. Ask about the age of the work and about varnish. The picture should stand upright, away from radiators, and can be dusted with a soft brush.
