Graphite and grades
Pencil is the most honest drawing tool: every decision, every pressure, every correction shows. Pencil drawings for sale run from the fleeting sketch through portraits to finely graded tonal pictures.
Hard pencils (H) draw pale, fine lines, soft ones (B) rich, velvety areas. Between them lies a whole range of gray. Graphite gleams slightly metallic in raking light, an effect reproductions never fully show. Drawn with the edge, grain appears, with the point a clean stroke.

From sketch to surrealism
Pencil can do a lot: the sketch, the photorealistic study, the expressive line, surreal worlds or cubist fragmentation. Small sheets appear at under 500 euro, larger formats at 1,000 to 2,000 euro.
Protecting the graphite
Graphite smudges easily. A fixative helps only to a degree, better is a frame with a mat that keeps the glass at a distance. Do not put the drawing in direct sun or damp rooms.
