More sheet, more time
Between a quick sketch and a large study sits a field where pencil drawings are fully worked out. You can buy pencil drawings for sale from 500 to 1,000 euro, often as larger, more densely built sheets such as photorealistic drawings or a lively sketch.
At this level, originals often come with a larger format or a clearly higher amount of work behind the sheet. Tonal steps are finer and areas are built with more care. The pencil shows its range: from silvery light grey to a nearly glossy black. It shows in the details: evenly built shadows, cleanly set edges and a paper that carries several layers of graphite without turning shiny or buckling.

The frame as part of the work
A custom frame with an acid-free mat pays off here. Museum glass with UV protection reduces reflections and guards the surface. The sheet then looks calm, even in a bright room.
What to look for
Check paper weight, size and signature in the description. A drawing on sturdy paper stays flat and needs less help from the framer.
