Almost like metal
To work stone sculpturally in diabase is to work with a rock almost as hard as metal. Diabase stone sculptures for sale appeal for their density, their dark color and their calm presence.
Diabase rings brightly when struck and feels heavier than you expect. The grains are so fine that the surface looks almost homogeneous. Grinding it reveals shades of green that were hidden before. Unlike marble it is hardly sensitive to acids, and unlike sandstone it absorbs hardly any water.

You can narrow things down via abstract forms or the 1,000 to 2,000 euro band. In the description, watch for weight, surface treatment and notes on outdoor use. Set diabase on firm, level ground. Cleaning stays uncomplicated: water, a brush and a little patience. Placing it should be well thought out, because a stone once set stays where it stands. For interiors, a felt glide under every contact point is recommended.
