Dense stone, medium size
Blackish green, cool and of a density you can feel: diabase is hard to confuse with any other stone. Diabase sculptures for sale at 1,000 to 2,000 euro are for those who want hard stone with its own tone.
At this price level, diabase works of handy to medium size are conceivable, often with ground surfaces and a dark gleaming polish. Working it takes diamond tools and time, so simple, clear forms are usual. With dark stone, light edges are especially strong: where one plane turns into the next, a bright line appears. That turns plain geometry into tension.

Outside and in
Diabase withstands frost and rain, and in a garden it develops a matte patina. A light ground lets the silhouette stand out. If you place it indoors, mind felt under the foot, since the stone scratches wood. Ask about dimensions and weight, and whether you prefer stone or an abstract form. Light plaster behind the piece brings out the silhouette.
