Granite is hard, grainy and unhurried, a stone that outlasts centuries. Anyone considering granite sculptures for sale deals with weight, frost resistance and a surface that may stand outdoors.
Granite consists of quartz, feldspar and mica, which is why it glitters in the light. It is much harder than marble and can only be worked with strong tools, often with diamond. Sculptors finish it flamed, bush-hammered or polished: flamed it is rough and warm, bush-hammered matte and grainy, polished it mirrors almost like glass. Granite defies frost and rain, and in a garden it develops patina over time. Plan a firm foundation, since larger pieces are very heavy. You can choose well via stone, statues or abstract forms. Ask about type, surface treatment and weight. Color matters too: gray, red and black varieties look very different, and in backlight the impression changes markedly.
