Cut soft, printed hard
In linocut only what is meant to carry ink stays standing, everything else is cut away. Linocuts for sale under 500 euro are for sheets with strong flats, clear lines, and visible handwork.
Linoleum cuts more easily than wood, so broad areas and flowing lines are possible. In print small peculiarities show: fine streaks from the roller, dots where ink was missed, and a slight embossing of the paper. Large black areas come from wide gouges, fine lines from the burin.
