Charcoal in print
Charcoal gives printmaking velvety depth and soft transitions of the kind known from drawings. Prints made with charcoal are for sale already under 500 euro, for instance as a monotype.
Charcoal is soft, matte and can be smudged. In printmaking it is combined with plates, rollers or offset transfer so that charcoal drawing and print merge. That creates blacks that look deeper than ink. With some care, a charcoal sheet keeps its depth for many years, and the matte character of the material suits almost any interior.

Delicate on the wall
Charcoal reacts to friction and moisture. A frame with glass and spacers protects the sheet from contact. Dimmed light suits the soft tones, and in a living room the picture looks like a drawing at night.
Care and questions
Ask whether the charcoal has been fixed and how the sheet should be stored. Paper, number and signature belong in the description. In style you find impressionism and graphic work.
