How ink works in a print
Ink and printing ink give printmaking its depth: rich black, fine lines, surfaces that settle into the paper. Prints made with ink are for sale starting under 500 euro, as an entry into collecting originals.
In printing, color is transferred from a plate to paper. With ink or printing ink, strong blacks arise, but also delicate tones when the color is applied thinly. Each impression shows slight deviations that tell of the craft. Depending on plate and paper, the same ink looks velvety or glossy, and these differences are what sets hand-pulled sheets apart from reproductions.

Wall space and framing
Prints gain from air around the sheet. A mat with a generous margin shows the plate mark and lets the paper breathe. Do not hang the work in direct sunlight, so paper and color stay fresh for a long time.
A guide through techniques
Depending on the process, ink looks different: on a linocut flat and strong, in an etching fine and line-driven, in a collagraph relief-like. Look for numbering, signature and edition.
