Light and dark with depth
On a large scale, classical oil painting shows what light, composition and patience can do. You will find classical oil paintings from 2,000 to 5,000 euro for sale here, with still life, landscape and figure in the tradition of the old masters.

The right frame
A painting of this kind tolerates a profiled frame. Gold, black or dark wood underline depth and dignity. Hang the picture away from radiators and windows, and choose a soft light that does not outshine the glazes.
Condition and documentation
Ask about varnish, age of the paint layer and condition of the canvas. Signature, date and a certificate belong to an original at this price level. Good descriptions also name dimensions and support and show detail shots.
