Unrest as design
Expressionism in mixed media scratches, smears and sticks: paint, paper, charcoal and ink stand against each other in one picture. People who love raw energy and texture browse expressionist mixed-media paintings on an acrylic base for sale.
Where pure painting works with brush and paint, mixed media adds scratch marks, pasted scraps and charcoal lines. The surface becomes restless and just therefore expressive. Each layer tells a moment of making.

Mind the durability
The more materials, the more important the fixing. Ask about fixative, varnish and whether to glaze. Loose charcoal and pastel in particular smudge easily. If you hang the picture open, keep it away from touch and drafts.
A dense surface in the room
Expressionist mixed-media pictures work best alone on a wall and in soft side light that shows scratches and reliefs without glare. A plain frame underlines the surface and does not distract from the unrest of the texture.
