Few means, many surfaces
Modernism in mixed media extends color and form with material: paper, sand, charcoal or ink become part of the composition. You can look at modern mixed-media paintings on an acrylic base for sale if you value reduction and texture together.
In modern work too, form stays central, but mixed media adds surface appeal. A matte area beside a rough one, a charcoal line beside a paint edge: the contrast arises in the material, in color alone.

Protecting the fragile
Charcoal, pastel and paper react to friction and moisture. A fixative, a varnish or glass create security. Ask about the build and have it described whether the work should hang open or behind glass and how it is cared for.
Hanging with restraint
Because structure and reduction work together, the picture needs a calm surrounding. A single wall, bright light from the side and some distance from furniture help. That way the change between smooth and rough zones can be seen well.
