Material as estrangement
Mixed media gives surrealism layers and friction: acrylic meets oil, drawing meets surface, the familiar becomes strange in the material. Surrealist mixed-media paintings for sale are a good fit if you like combining riddles with handwork.
When oil paint lies over acrylic, the two layers react to light differently: one shines, the other stays matte. That creates zones that change as you look. The painter uses this deliberately to make spaces, shadows and bodies ambiguous.

Living with tension
Surreal mixed-media pictures are modest in format but dense in content. They work in studies, hallways or beside a bookshelf. If you hang them next to calm furniture, they draw the eye all the more.
Checking and asking
Because oil and acrylic cannot be combined arbitrarily, the description should name the order of the layers. Also ask about supports, varnish and frame, and whether the work has dried through before shipping.
